First Footage of 'Bruno' Released

A few extremely fortunate people at South by Southwest in Austin were treated to the first public screening of twenty minutes of Brüno: Delicious Journeys Through America For The Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable In The Presence Of A Gay Foreigner In A Mesh T-Shirt starring Sacha Baron Cohen last weekend.

We already know he pokes fun at Madonna.

According to NY Magazine, Bruno tries to adopt an African-American baby and puts showbiz moms through the wringer, asking if they would consent to plastic surgery on their tot girls in order to book a modeling job. Plus, there's a gay cage-fighting.

He adopts a black baby, Madonna-style. In the footage, the very fey Austrian-accented Bruno auditions a series of (real) parents. One after another agrees without flinching to let him do terrible, dangerous things to their children — from extreme dieting and liposuction to letting them pose as Jesus on the cross — just to get a job. Bruno takes his baby on a talk show with a majority of African Americans in the audience. Somehow he manages to outrage them. It's hilarious.

Basically this segment had Bruno interviewing these showbiz moms about their 3 year old daughters, asking progressively more bizarre questions, probing to find out just where the line was that these women would not cross. ... Can your daughter handle sudden acceleration? How about sudden stops? Would it be okay to take out their car seat if it was needed? How would your daughter handle being dropped four stories? "I think she’d be a little scared at first, but she can do it."

Bruno asks how much one woman’s daughter weighs. He gets an answer… about 30 pounds. "I'm not looking for the Scarlett Johansson type, I’m looking for the Nicole Ritchie type … can your daughter lose 10 pounds in 7 days?" "We can try. I think she can do it." Would you consider liposuction? "If she can’t lose the weight in 7 days, we’d consider that as a last resort."

We can't wait. Bruno arrives in theaters July 10. Mark your calendars.
