Prison Guard Fired for Making Friends With Jailed Criminals on Facebook
Nathan Singh, 27, (pictured, left) a prison guard at a UK prison has been fired for smuggling cell phones and other banned items into the prison, and making friends with 13 criminals on Facebook.
Pictures showed him socializing with a criminal who was later found guilt of 24 fraud charges. Another of his Facebook friends stabbed a man to death outside a nightclub in 1995. A third was jailed for two years for affray, while a fourth, Tyrone Leadett,(pictured, right) was given five years for drugs offenses and conspiracy.
He knew the criminals from school or from playing football.
"Sometimes when I logged on to my Facebook site there would be 20-odd friend requests and I just accepted them. Sometimes I didn't even check them. I realise now it might have been naïve in the job I do," she said.
However, the investigation, launched five months after he was hired, found he had been in phone contact with seven of the 13 criminal friends on Facebook.
