A former rookie police officer has pleaded guilty to holding up the same New York City bank twice -- both inside jobs with a teller.
Christian Torres, 23, told a federal judge in NYC yesterday that he decided to rob the bank because he was broke and afraid he'd have to drop out of the Police Academy where he was making $32,000 a year.
The bank teller, Christina Dasrath, was sentenced to 30 months earlier this year for giving Christian information that helped in all the holdups.
Police say he forced bank employees, at gun point, to take him to the vault, then stuffed large bills — 100s, 50s and 20s — in a white shopping bag and fled in a car. He got away with $118,000 the first time. The second time he decided to rob the same NYC bank he got away with $102,000, which Christina helped load into the bag.
Christian faces up to 97 months in prison at sentencing on Nov. 6.
He already has been sentenced to 121 months in prison in a Pennsylvania for a separate bank heist.
