11-Year-Old Girl Sets Mom On Fire
An 11-year-old (Samantha Broadhead) and her 15-year-old boyfriend (Jack Ault) of Clearwater, Fla. have been charged with attempted murder after setting Samantha's mother on fire early Tuesday morning.
At around 1am , the pair poured gasoline over Nancy Broadhead's bed and bedroom floor while she slept and then ignited it. Then they fled the scene in the her car, according to the St. Petersburg Times.
Nancy (pictured) was awakened by the smoke detector and was able to get out - but not before suffering "serious burns" and smoke inhalation. Her injuries were described as serious but not life threatening.
What could drive an 11-year-old terror to want to kill her mother? Well, it's complicated. No one knows the answer - except her. But, they have an "extensive family history" of cases filed with the state Department of Children and Families. Among the charges was a 2002 case of child neglect without great harm to which Nancy pleaded guilty.
The day before, Nancy confronted Samantha about the cigarettes she stole from her.
The mother was unaware of the plot and was overhead screaming "My baby! Where's my baby!" thinking the Samantha was still inside the engulfed home.
The daughter and her 15-year-old boyfriend (you know they're having sex, right?), planned to get married. Those plans will have to wait.
Both were charged with attempted murder and arson resulting in serious injury. Jack was also charged with grand theft charge related to stealing Nancy's car. Samantha is being detained for psychiatric assessment after making statements that made detectives believe she may try to harm herself.
And as you suspect, Jack's mother is saying her son is innocent. He probably is. Samantha, on the other hand, not so much.
