Woman Arrested for Pruning Trees in Park

Sandra McFeeley, a 67-year-old Dallas resident, was charged with felony criminal mischief (and faced up to two years in jail and a $10,000 fine) after trimming tree branches and overgrown vines in a park near her home.

"She was going out to this greenbelt area and trimming it as she saw fit," said Joe Ries, a city park maintenance manager. "We asked her to stop," he said, because she didn't have a work agreement with the city.

Some neighbors say that section was a greenbelt and, thus, should be allowed to grow wild.

But Sandra, who has been trimming the tress for at least three years, said it's a stress reliever.

"Whenever I get frustrated, I come out and clean it up and feel better," she said. "It's the cheapest therapy I know."

The police department accused Sandra of more than $4,500 worth of property damage, but later called her arrest "unfortunate" and dropped the charges.
