Buju Banton Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison For Cocaine Trafficking

Reggae artist Buju Banton (real name: Mark Anthony Myrie) was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Last February, the 37-year-old father of 15 (count em -- 15 children!) was convicted of conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense and using a telephone to facilitate a drug trafficking offense. U.S District Judge James S. Moody -- who received dozens of letters from the singer's fans, officials from the Jamaican government and actor Danny Glover -- threw out a gun charge, which lowered Buju's sentence from 15 to 10 years and ordered him to serve 5 years of probation after his prison term.
