Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said in bond court today that the building's landlord was called by tenants who said their ceiling was leaking. The water was damaging two apartments below Gibbs', according to a police report. The landlord knocked on Gibbs' door, got no response, and let himself into the unit, where Gibbs ran toward him naked, covered in blood, Scaduto said. The landlord also saw a blood-soaked towel in the apartment before he leaving to call police.olice said they were called to Gibbs' condo about 10 p.m. and, after the landlord again received no answer when he knocked, Gibbs came to the door for police. Gibbs' hands were covered in blood and he "appeared highly intoxicated," according to a police report. Gibbs let the officers into the apartment, and they found blood on the floor and walls of the hall, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom and his Doberman with a wound under its right ear, police said. Gibbs told police he had been trying to remove a cyst from under the dog’s ear using a butcher knife, according to police and prosecutors, and had turned on the water in the bathtub to clean up the dog.He was drunk. He told police he was out drinking Saturday night then had another half-bottle of wine before he "proceeded to perform surgery" on his dog, which was taken to an emergency veterinary center for treatment and is now in the care of Chicago Animal Care and Control.

Drunk Man Tried to Operate on Dog
Stewart Gibbs is not a doctor, but he plays one in the privacy of his own home. According to police, the 44-year-old was charged with felony cruelty to an animal after he tried to remove a cyst from under his Doberman’s right ear on Sunday. He told police he's "a cardiologist and was capable of performing surgery on his dog," but that's not true.
