New York Legalizes Gay Marriage

The New York state Senate voted 33-29 and approved the bill legalizing same-sex marriage late Friday night making it the sixth -- and largest -- state to do so. The bill has already cleared the Democrat-led Assembly and Gov. Andrew Cuomo has promised to sign it into law. Same-sex couples would be able to get married 30 days after the governor signs it. Same-sex marriages are already legal in Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Washington, DC.

Update: Gov. Cuomo has signed the bill into law.
