Watching Jennifer Hudson return to the spotlight was thrilling and her rendition of The Star Spangeled Banner was breathtaking.
But, it wasn't live.
According to the Superbowl pregame producer, "American Idol" music director Ricky Minor, Jennifer lip-synched the anthem to a previously recorded track, submitted a week prior.
That's the right way to do it," Minor said. "There's too many variables to go live. I would never recommend any artist go live, because the slightest glitch would devastate the performance."
Faith Hill, who sang “America the Beautiful” before Jennifer also lip-synched.
Irregardless, it was a stellar performance.
It had us thinking: Did she upstage Whitney Houston's 1991 stellar performance?
You be the judge.
And here's Jennifer's:
Here's Whitney's:
Who sung it better?
Talking about Whitney: Have you seen daughter Bobbi Kristina lately? You won't believe your eyes.
See for yourself after the jump.
This is the mother and daughter arriving at LAX on Sunday. Whitney is in town to perform at Clive Davis' Grammy's party.
