Naked Man Gives Airline Passengers a Show, Airplane Diverted

A US Airways flight to Los Angeles was diverted to Albuquerque after a man removed all of his clothing midflight, forcing flight attendants to cover him with a blanket before he was arrested.

Keith Wright, 50, from the Bronx, NY, was taken into custody by airport authorities after he disrobed in his seat in the back of Flight 705 Tuesday night, authorities said.

A passenger said the man appeared to fall asleep, but then started taking his clothes off. He refused to cooperate with flight attendants and threw off a blanket that was placed over him.

The plane, carrying about 148 passengers from Charlotte to Los Angeles, landed in Albuquerque at about 6:45 p.m., US Airways spokeswoman Valerie Wunder said.

Two off-duty law officers on the flight helped the flight attendants subdue and handcuff Wright, airport spokesman Dan Jiron said.

Passenger Ginny Keegan said the man was "completely naked" as he was taken in handcuffs off the plane.

His niece, Patrice Brown, said Wright, a Navy vet, is bipolar.

"Obviously he was not taking his medication," said his younger brother Richard.

Debra Wright, said her husband left their Clason Point home Tuesday without telling her after he spent days not eating or sleeping.

"When I came home from work he wasn't around," she told the Daily News. "Next thing I know I get a call from a FBI officer. That is when I knew."

Wright is being held in federal detention in New Mexico pending his appearance in court on charges of interference with a flight. He will be arraigned today and possibly be ordered to undergo a psychiatric examination, the FBI confirmed.
