Was Kanye's VMA Stunt, Well, A Stunt?

We've been hearing rumors for an entire day now that the Kanye/Taylor incident might have been staged by MTV - who, thrives on this this kind of controversy. Remember the Bruno/Eminem blow-up?

Kanye, who promised he will never return to MTV after a series of loses (see video below), showed up at the 2009 VMAs downing a bottle Hennessey. (Thousands of photos were taken of him with the bottle to his head, which was probably all part of the scheme.) During Taylor's acceptance speech, he was able to bypass MTV security and bombard the stage of a live telecast. And why was Taylor so willing to hand him the mic?

If this is, in fact, a PR stunt, it sure is a win-win situation for all involved. MTV gets people talking about them again, Taylor continues to be America's Sweetheart and receives an endless supply of love and sympathy, Beyoncè (whose video was, by miles, better than Taylor's) appears to be even more gracious than imaginable, and Kanye, who has previously refused to talk to the press, goes on to do endless press to show how apologetic and sorry he can be.

Questions. Questions. Questions.

Here's Kanye's backstage rant at the 2007 VMAs in Las Vegas where he's screaming: “I lost to the fucking Black Eyed Peas last year, man. I’m never fucking coming back to MTV." And of course he returns, because his appearance will make headlines.
