Was Precious Star Gabourey Sidibe Cheated Out of An Award? The Ballots Say Yes!

At the African-American Film Critics Association awards ceremony held Dec. 14 Precious won ever major award - Best Picture, Best Director, Supporting Actress and Screenplay. Every award except Best Actress, which, according to the ballots, Gabourey Sidibe should have won. Easily.

But, as Roger Friedman over at Showbiz411 points out, there was some curry-favoring going on.

He writes: "According to the final ballot, which I’ve seen, Sidibe received eight first-place votes from the 16 critics who participated. Beharie got four first-place finishes, and the rest went to Anika Noni Rose (two votes) and one each for Helen Mirren and Zooey Deschanel. Among second-place finishers, Sidibe got five votes; Beharie got one."

It's allged that AAFCA's co-founder Gil Robertson IV changed the votes to please producers of American Violet, a film no one has heard of. It's star, Nicole Beharie, won the award over Gabbby.

If true, we won't be surprised. These sort of things have been going for years.

I don't think people should read too much into it, I watched American Violet and Nicole Beharie definitely deserves to win the award, her acting was amazing. I reccommend that people watch the movie and then judge.
