Man Caught Trying To Break Into Jail

According to cops in Medford, Ore. James Merrill DeVore, 28, climbed over a fence and tried to break into the Jackson County Jail yesterday.

Officers say James was distraught and said he had been drinking and smoking weed. He told officers he was trying to get help at the jail and that when he didn't get an answer at the front entrance, he decided to go around back.

He was charged with disorderly conduct and trespassing but was not arrested. Instead he was taken to the county's sobering center and referred for mental health services.
