Dr Conrad Murray Charged, Pleads Not Guilty to Manslaughter

After months and months of speculation and investigation, Dr Conrad Murray has been charged with the death of his patient, Michael Jackson.

At his arraignment this afternoon at the Airport Courthouse in Los Angeles, the doctor faced one charge of involuntary manslaughter for providing Michael with a powerful anesthetic that was ruled a major factor in the singer's death last June. Dr Murray pleaded not guilty.

If convicted, he faces a possible maximum four-year state prison term.

At the arraignment, the judge set bail at $75,000, which Dr. Murray was making arrangements to post. In setting the bail, the judge said that the doctor cannot leave the country and must surrender his passport. He is allowed to practice medicine, but cannot use anesthetics or otherwise put people under.

The California Attorney General has served notice that it is seeking to revoke his license.
