Gerald Imes, the older brother of Oscar-winner Mo'Nique, appeared on Oprah yesterday where he admitted to molesting his sister for about two years beginning when she was 7 years old. He was 13. He blames his actions on his own molestation by family members and on crack.
"I abused and betrayed the trust of another sibling, my sister, my blood sister," he said. "I'm sorry, Mo'Nique. I'm sorry.....Hopefully somewhere, somehow as siblings we can come back together as brother and sister."
We could be wrong, but Gerald, who served 7 seven years in prison for molesting another child, seems disingenuous.
Update: Mo'Nique is pissed!
According to a report on Radar Online, Mo'Nique felt her brother lied his way through the interview and was unsympathetic. Additionally, their sources say it was Gerald who initially approached Oprah for an interview and “Oprah called Mo’Nique to see if she was okay about him appearing on her show to discuss the abuse and although she was not entirely happy about it she gave Oprah her blessing.”
