We haven't been following the Manti Te'o scandal closely, because sh-t is just too weird and confusing. Ronaiah Tuiasosopo -- who says he's a recovering homosexual* and insists was the voice of Manti's fake girlfriend Lennay Kekua -- gave an interview to Dr Phil to take full responsibility, but we think he's taking the fall for someone. Who? We don't know. Things got really weird when Dr Phil asked the 22-year-old to speak in the voice of Lennay, then when he gave some excuse why he couldn't, Dr Phil told him professional FBI voice recognition experts say the voice on the tapes is not Ronaiah's. All Ronaiah did was smile and nod his head in agreement. (Sidebar: A family member told reporters the voice on the tapes belonged to Ronaiah's cousin, Tino Tuiasosopo.)
Oh, in part two of the interview, which airs tomorrow, Ronaiah decides to prove the FBI wrong and agrees to do the voice of Lennay -- behind a privacy screen. We bet that didn't go well.
*Here's the video:
Good luck with that.
Update, Feb. 1: Dr Phil wasn't completely won-over by Ronaiah's performance of Lennay's voice behind the privacy screene, so he allowed Ronaiah to go home and perform the voice on a producer’s phone with a producer serving as a witness. (Listen to it, below) Three separate voice analysts (we're not sure if they are the same FBI/Secret Service experts from above) concluded the voice provided by Ronaiah on the producer's phone matched the voice from the of Lennay on the voicemails released earlier. (Oh, he also claimed he was molest as a child by a family friend but didn't tell authorities.)
