Party Girl in Life Gets Befitting Funeral

A 53-year-old New Orleans woman was memorialized with a “last party” at her funeral this week, complete with beer, menthol cigarettes and a disco ball. Miriam Marie “Mae-Mae” Burbank passed away on June 1. Her two daughters said Mae-Mae was “full of life” and they wanted her funeral to reflect her life, so they told the funeral home directors at Charbonnet Funeral Home in New Orleans about their mother and planners came up with this home going party. At the funeral, Mae-Mae was sitting at a table in a living room setting holding a menthol cigarette and a glass of beer. A crossword puzzle and Saints helmets were also featured on the table.

Meanwhile, in Atlanta

An elderly man was thrown off a MARTA train in Atlanta last Saturday and it was captured on tape. Of course. According to the person behind the camera, the elderly man was making derogatory comments about female passengers. About 40 seconds into the video, a younger man approaches the elderly man, grabs him and his walker then shoves him out of the train car. The man fell on the platform outside the train. Police are investigating.

Rapper, Actor Jamal 'Gravy' Woolard Jailed For Assaulting Wife, Again

Jamal Woolard (aka Gravy) who played Notorious BIG in the 2009 biopic Notorious, was arrested Gwinnett County, Georgia on Saturday for domestic violence. According to the folks over at TMZ, Jamal's 15-year-old stepson called 911 and told officers "My stepdad, he hit my mom and he's acting crazy." According to the police report, Trina Younger Woolard (that's the victim and wife) told police her husband began screaming at her after she had scolded their daughter. She says the 38-year-old rapper/actor grabbed her by the throat, slammed her against the wall and told her, "Get the f*** off of my daughter." When officers arrived, they found broken furniture strewn about the house. Jamal told them he's very protective of his daughter because he loves her more than his wife. WOW! He was charged with battery, cruelty to children, and simple assault. His bond is set at $1300. (As of this writing, he's still in jail. Did the checks stop coming in or what?) If you recall, he faced similar charges in 2009 after he assaulted Trina. Then we learned Trina is a liar who makes these sort of allegations regularly. Those were the good ol' days of the WWE.

Here's audio of the stepson's call to 911.

Lady Jailed For Telling Passenger She Kills White People Says She's Innocent Because She's Down With the Swirl

Let's talk about Lashonda Williams' ferocious fashion sense. OK, let's not. Last Sunday, she was on a United Airlines flight bound for Houston when she got into an argument with another passenger. Long story short: The plane returned to the gate and Lashonda was arrested and charged with assault because the passenger claimed Lashonda said, “I kill white people like you” and threatened to follow her in Houston and “find out where she lived.” Lashonda says that's absurd and she'll never say such a thing because "all I date [are] white men." Good luck with that defense.

Meanwhile, in Florida, $26,000 Stolen From Man's Shoe

A gentleman in Florida is probably kicking himself in the head with his Timberlands after he lost his life savings.
When a burglar stole $26,000 in cash from a Boynton Beach home on Monday, it wasn’t stashed under the mattress or in a locked safe, police say. Instead, the money was taken from a shoe. Boynton Beach Police say sometime between 5:40 a.m. and 2:40 p.m. someone entered the home on the 2600 block of NE 4th Street, just west of N Federal Highway. The man told police that when he came home it looked like someone pried his door open and then ransacked his bedroom. He said the other rooms were untouched. According to a police report, the cash was stolen from inside a blue Timberland boot in the bedroom. Police are still investigating the incident.

Jury Awards $105K to Black Woman Falsely Accused of Shoplifting, Arrested at H&M

A 59-year-old grandmother was awarded more than $100,000 after a jury found her falsely arrested for shoplifting at the H&M clothing store at the Clackamas Town Center mall in Portland, Oregon back in May 2011. Brenda Moaning says she was singled out by loss-prevention officers because she is black. Brenda was the only black non-employee in the store and was "followed for 15 minutes by the security guards even though she wasn’t doing anything suspicious," according to attorney Jason Kafoury. “After I saw the video, it’s 15 minutes of me being watched in the store in the dress that I had purchased from them the day before,” she told KOIN. In the footage, which was shown in court, the camera focuses in on Brenda several times while she shops and eventually checks out. Before paying the clerk, she offers to pay in advance for a $5 shirt at the front of the store. She pays and then picks up the $5 tee on her way out. That’s when loss prevention officers grabbed her even after the clerk acknowledged the purchase and watched her put the shirt in her bag. “Both of my arms got snatched behind me at the same time, and I thought about how I had put the top in the bag. So I said, ‘I prepaid. Look at the receipt!’” she said. But the officers didn't believe her. Two loss prevention officers and one H&M security guard forced her into a security room, and according to court documents, told her she “looked like a common thief.” While jurors did find H&M liable for battery, false arrest and punitive damages, they say Brenda didn't prove racial discrimination, but they said H&M employees had committed false arrest and acted with malice. She, nor any black people, should shop at the BeBe in Houston if the allegations are true.

Here's the surveillance video.
