Russell Simmons Calls Anti-Sag Campaign 'A Waste of Time'

Last month New York State Senator Eric Adams launched an anti-sag campaign in hopes it will encourage young men to get their pants off the ground, but one iconic hip-hop figure prefers to believe in freedom of expression.

Russell Simmons tells WWD, “I like Sen. Adams, but this is wrong-headed and a waste of time. This is the latest example of adults trying to repress the creativity and individuality of kids. Why would kids want to dress like Sen. Adams? There is no connection to saggy pants and the ability to succeed. Just look at what buttoned-up America has done to the rest of the world and each other. Why can’t kids be different?”

While Russell makes a great point and is probably hoping to sell his fashions, we can't think of a lot of people -- outside of the entertainment industry -- who are taken seriously or successful in their careers while sagging.
