Tree Killed Nabbed in Brooklyn

For weeks, dozens of trees in the Prospect Heights and Crown Heights sections of Brooklyn were losing branches. It was the work a crazy amateur horticulturist named Steve Maynard, who would break off the branches at night and leave the limbs in a pile around the wounded trees' trunks. Residents were upset and began throwing the branches into the courtyard outside his mother’s home, but that didn't deter Steve. He continued to attack trees until he was arrested in June and sent him for a psychiatric evaluation. For reasons unknown, the 35-year-old was released a few weeks later. A few days ago, he began attacking trees again and yesterday, he was re-arrested and charged with criminal mischief for the $200,000 in damage he caused. Why did he do it? According to the New York Post, Steve told police "he was working for a private eye searching for the body of a girl named 'Amy,' who he believed had been killed by demons in the trees." And after his arrest, "he was observed by cops casting and reeling in an imaginary fishing rod." Cuckoo!
