Chaka, Chaka Khan, Chaka Khan. An unnamed British man who played Chaka Khan's 1978 smash hit "I'm Every Woman" on repeat, which kept neighbors awake at night, had his door kicked in and radio taken away by officers.
Noise officers from Shepway District Council visited the flats and heard for themselves the 'ear-splitting' noise coming from the man's home. The council served a noise abatement notice, but after that was ignored they broke down the door to his flat and confiscated his stereo and CD collection, which amounted to several love song CDs. Liam Flannery, an environmental health officer for the council, said this week: "It must have been a nightmare for the other people living there. One man had to get up at 6am and as the music was often still being played at that time. I could feel the bass vibrating through my whole body - I was really shaking. It was excessive noise that could be heard throughout the building, going on all night. Unfortunately, the man concerned didn't have an extensive CD collection so it was the same few songs - girly love songs like 'I'm Every Woman' - over and over again. We've got his stuff now and the warrant's open, so if he buys any more we'll take that too." One neighbour, who refused to be named, said: "It was horrible, truly horrible - nobody could get a decent night's sleep because this guy was blaring out love songs all through the night. God only knows where he got his musical taste from, but he needs to expand his horizons or he'll drive himself mad."
