Man Faces 5 Years in Prison For Uploading Kanye West Album to Internet

Richard Franco Montejano of Los Angeles, California pleaded guilty to illegally uploading an advance copy of Kanye West's 2007 "Graduation" album on the website of a music release group called "Old School Classics" before it was to be released in stores

The underground community specializes in distributing prerelease copies of music. Two of its members were employees at a plant in North Carolina that manufactured disks for Universal Music Group, according to federal court papers. Investigators found more than 27,000 unauthorized files on Montejano's computer, estimated to be worth between $10,000 and $30,000. According to court papers, he accepted a guilty plea for conspiracy to commit copyright infringement. If convicted, he could face up to 5 years in federal prison, three years of parole and a $250,000 fine.
