According to police, they encouraged their 7-year-old son to attack another boy and when a 73-year-old crossing guard tried to break up the fight, Darrell and Shareka attacked him.
The boys had been involved in an altercation at Lyons Elementary School on Wednesday, Garcia said. The parents of one of the boys were called by school officials and were not satisfied with the attempted resolution between the two boys, Garcia said. The parents drove to the intersection Thursday morning to find the other 7-year-old. They let their son out of the vehicle and yelled at him to beat the other child, Garcia said. The couple's 7-year-old punched the other 7-year-old, knocking him to the ground, Garcia said. He suffered minor injuries, but none that required medical attention, he added. When the crossing guard attempted to intervene, the father punched him in the face and continued assaulting him, Garcia said. The mother punched the crossing guard in the back of the head, Garcia said. The man did not suffer serious injuries but his front tooth was chipped as a result of the beating, he said. The parents and child then left the scene. The crossing guard told police he knew the parents, but police have not been able to locate them as of this morning, Garcia said.

Darrell and Shareka are currently on the lam; when caught, they will face charges of assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
