Meanwhile, in Florida
James Myles, 25, of Miami, Florida, is facing one charge of kidnapping after holding a homeless 19-year-old woman, whom he met on an online dating site, against her will for several days. Homeless, yet still on a dating site, you ask? Welcome to 2014! According to police, Jazzima Barnes and James made arrangements to meet each other over the weekend, but on Tuesday when she attempted to leave he violently held her. She ended up dialing 911 using her disconnected cell phone at around 12:30 a.m Wednesday morning. Investigators say Jazzima was still on the phone with dispatch when James attacked her. “As she attempted to get out, that’s when he got a little more violent. That’s when he battered her several times and this was during while the line was open with 911 so the dispatchers were able to provide real time information to the units that were attempting to find her and finally when she was able to give a more defined location, that’s when they went ahead and were able to locate her,” Det. Alvaro Zabaleta of Miami-Dade Police said. James' sister, Anquette Myles, is calling BS on this story. She says the couple has been dating for a few weeks and Jazzima lied to police about being held against her will. "He left several times, and she never attempted to try and leave or nothing," Anquette said. "If she really wanted to leave, she could have. There was no one here but her." James is being held without bond.

Couples Who Smoke Weed Together, Stay Together: study
Grants are given to almost anyone to study anything, so we aren't surprised by this study by researchers at the University of Buffalo School of Public Health and Health Professions and Research Institute on Addictions. They've found that married couples who smoke weed fight less.
These findings were robust even after controlling for things like demographic variables, behavioral problems, and alcohol use. The authors studied data from 634 couples over nine years of marriage, starting in 1996. Couples were administered regular questionnaires on a variety of issues, including recent drug and alcohol use and instances of physical aggression toward their spouses. Previous research on the relationship between marijuana use and domestic violence has largely been based on cross-sectional data (that is, data from one point in time), and those findings have been mixed: some studies found links between marijuana use and/or abuse and domestic violence, while others did not. The Buffalo study is one of the few to use data collected over the course of decades to examine the question, putting it on solid methodological ground compared to previous work. The authors caution that while these findings are predictive--meaning couples who smoke are less likely to commit domestic violence--they don't necessarily draw a causal line between the two behaviors. Among the connections they hypothesize, "marijuana may increase positive affect, which in turn could reduce the likelihood of conflict and aggression." Translation: stoned people are happy, and happy people don't fight. You don't say! They could've given us the thousands of dollars they paid the researchers because we -- or anyone for that matter -- already know this.

Accused Child Molester Sues Judge Who Banned Him From Attending Church
A Texas man who is awaiting trial for sexually assaulting a minor was ordered to stay away from church, where he just happens to serve as a deacon. Antonio Herrera claims his constitutional rights are being violated and, like people who feel their civil rights are being violated tend to do, he's suing the judge.
As a condition of bond, Herrera was also ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device and not to have contact with anyone younger than 18, according to an amended bond order from March 19. Herrera, of Denton County, is charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault in Dallas County and one count of indecency by contact in Denton County, according to court records. "Plaintiff has entered a plea of not guilty to the allegations, and has steadfastly denied, and continues to deny, that the allegations have any basis in fact," the 9-page complaint states. "The allegations against Mr. Herrera have nothing to do with any charges relating to or stemming from his relationship with any member of his church or religious community." Herrera claims he is a deacon in his church and that he wishes to participate in church activities, preach and attend religious services while awaiting trial. "The court's order has violated, and continues to violate, plaintiff's right to the free exercise of his religion, which 'unquestionably encompasses the right to preach, proselyt[iz]e, and perform other similar religious functions,'" the complaint states. "By entering a 'no church' order that had the effect of barring plaintiff from attending religious services, the defendant ... has restricted plaintiff from preaching in violation of plaintiff's right to free exercise, a right guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States.Public records show Antonio was arrested and charged in 2007 and he was indicted by a grand jury last May. Does it really take that long in Texas?

Doctors Remove 36-year-old Baby Skeleton From Woman's Womb
An Indian woman seeking medical attention for chronic stomach pain discovered her discomfort was caused by a 36-year-old baby skeleton lodged in her abdomen. Yep, you read that right. Kantabai Pradesh, 62, from Pipariya had suffered an ectopic pregnancy, a condition in which the baby grows outside its mother’s womb, when she was just 24-years-old in 1978, according to the Times of India. When she suffered a miscarriage and needed surgery to removed the fetus, Kantabai became scared and went back to her village. When doctors at the NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital examined Pradesh for her stomach pain and discovered a lump on her abdomen, they originally believed it was cancer. After more examinations and a CT scan, they discovered the lump was actually the calcified matter of the fetus, lodged between her uterus, intestines and bladder. “It was after the patient underwent a MRI that the doctors could make out that the mass was in fact a child’s skeleton,” said Dr. Murtaza Akhtar, one of the team of surgeons who removed the skeleton from Kantabai's abdomen. Before Kantabai's case, a Belgian woman had retained the remains of a ectopic pregnancy for 18 years.

Talib Kweli Challenges Don Lemon Over CNN's Coverage of Ferguson Protests
Imma let you finish, but.... Rapper, activist (raptivist?) Talib Kweli is in Ferguson, Missouri to protest the killing of Michael Brown, the unarmed 18-year-old who was shot dead by a police officer on August 9. This afternoon he appeared on "Wolf," which was being guest hosted by Don Lemon (how he doing!), but the interview never took off because Talib accused CNN of being biased and inaccurate with its reporting of the protests and accused Don of disrespecting him by not introducing himself before they went live on-air; he even threatened to walk out of the interview several times if he's not heard. Even though producers were telling Don to wrap up this interview, he relented because he wanted to have the conversation because it's important he lectures Talib on the art of the interview.

Man Who Burglarized 'America's Largest Closet' Claims Everything He Stole is Fake
A man who planned the perfect robbery is pissed that all the items he stole are fake. But to let Theresa Roemer, the Houston woman who was robbed tell it, this is all a scheme to smear her name and extort her. Earlier this month, Theresa says while she and her husband were out to dinner, a man broke into her home through a bathroom window and made a beeline to her three-story, 3,000 square foot closet which was featured on Good Morning America days prior. (Sidebar: She says she built the closet -- at a cost of about $500,000 -- to host fundraisers.) The suspect seems to take his time, spending 40 minutes inside the closet, stealing pricey Hermés Birkin bags, Rolex and Chanel watches, diamonds and a locket, which holds hair from her deceased son. He got away with almost $1 million worth of luxury items in two $60,000 Birkins. Days later, after we presume he tried to sell the stolen items but learned they were fake, the burglar contacted Theresa and demanded "requested over half a million dollars to return her items and not expose her to the news... The deal never went through. I'm following through with my threat." He then sent a reporter at the Houston Press several pieces of costume jewelry, including the locket. The reporter turned over the items to police. "It's one thing to be robbed but now it's another for someone to hold me for ransom for my belongings," Theresa said "He claims that whatever it is that's in there is fake. Well, you know, if you walk into any one woman's closet there's gonna be valuable things, and there's gonna be costume things, and there's gonna be vintage things." Someone talking heads on the Internet are speculating this robbery was Theresa's attempt to commit insurance fraud. Devoloping.
