Beyoncé Biography Says Rihanna is the Reason Solange Attacked Jay-Z in Elevator and More
Earlier this year, we told you about an unauthorized biography, written by J. Randy Taraborrelli, about Mrs Carter called Becoming Beyoncé: The Untold Story. The book hits stores October 27, but the folks over at the New York Daily News got their hands on an advance copy is spilling some tea.
On the long-standing rumor Jay Z was/is sleeping with Rihanna:
It was concocted by Miss Fenty's publicist Jonathan Hay to give the then-17-year-old Barbadian beauty’s first single “Pon de Replay” a boost, Taraborrelli wrote. “It was all a stunt,” said Hay, who has made the same admission several times in interviews. Jay Z’s only complaint when the story was being spun was “Dude, she’s a minor!” according to Taraborrelli. But Beyoncé believed that RiRi had gotten under Jay Z’s skin, and she wanted out.
On the effect this rumor had on Mrs Carter and Jay Z's relationship:
Mrs Carter and Jay Z broke up for an entire year in 2005 over the rumor. The writer calls that a "lonely year."
On what caused that epic fight in the elevator at the Standard Hotel after the Met Gala in 2014:
The book claims Jay Z wanted to party with Miss Fenty that night and Mrs Carter told him he couldn't. Solange piped in, allegedly telling Jay Z: “Why can’t you go home?” When Jay Z told Solange to mind her own business, she went wild in the elevator, throwing punches and kicks as a security guard tried to pry her off of him.
Tina Knowles meddled in her daughter's personal life:
When Mrs Carter was 15 and dating 17-year-old Lyndall Locke (whom she met in church), a worried Tina pulled the boy aside and asked that he wait until the she was 18 before they had sex. “I can’t make you not have sex,” Tina told him. Lyndall agreed to wait. Whether or not he kept his promise, the News wonders, is one of the few unanswered questions Taraborrelli’s book. The book does say, though, the couple continued to date until Mrs Carter a decade later.
It was Tina who convinced Mrs Carter to go out with Jay Z:
While Tina pushed her daughter, she wasn't open the idea and she played hard to get. “He was after her and she wasn’t interested,” Beyoncé’s uncle Larry Beyince told the author. Once they got together, Jay Z began chafing at playing second fiddle to Beyoncé’s career.
