Larry Flynt, Hustler magazine founder, and Joe Francis, creator of the Girls Gone Wild video series, are lobbying the US congress to give them a bailout, similar to those awarded to the financial and automobile industries.
They fear the 13-billion-dollar porn industry is on the verge of collapse and is seeking $5 billion (yes, that's US dollars) as a "precautionary measure".
They say DVD sales are rentals are down 22%.
"Congress seems willing to help shore up our nation's most important businesses, (and) we feel we deserve the same consideration," Francis said in a statement. "In difficult economic times, Americans turn to entertainment for relief. More and more, the kind of entertainment they turn to is adult entertainment."
"With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind," Flynt said. People were "too depressed to be sexually active", which was "very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such, but they cannot do without sex." He said the only way Congress could "rejuvenate" America's sexual appetite was "by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly." There was no response from Congress to the request.
We are gonna go out on a limb to say Congress will not give them one cent, or even let them in the building. If either happens, I will personally write my Congressman to demand that my tax dollars don't go toward this crap.
Sorry, guys.
But there is good news on the porn front. According to our boy Rod, gay porn, particularly Blatino gay porn, is experiencing a surge sales of DVDs and sex toys.
Flavaworks, a producer a gay porn, is reporting a staggering 200% increase in DVD sales, a 30% increase in video on demand over the last three months alone and a 45% jump in Web site sales.
The How You Doin' faction is getting it in hard during this recession.
Question: Who still buys X-rated DVDs? Can't you just find it online for free? Just asking.
;-)
