Beyoncè and Sasha Fierce Turned Canada Out Last Night, 1st Stop on 'I Am...' Tour

Beyoncè and Sasha Fierce kicked off their "I Am..." world tour last night in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Maybe she played such a small city (752,412 people) and small theater (8,000 seats) to work out potential kinks or avert any unforeseen disaster with those amazing costumes. Or, something.

But despite the imposed media ban and long pauses between costume changes, she turned Rexall Place the fuck out!

Said a critic:
"Opening with some momentous numbers -- "Beautiful Nightmare" and "Crazy In Love", which were peppered with touches of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams", DJ Kool's "Let Me Clear My Throat" and The J.B.'s "Pass The Peas" -- you would have thought Sasha was already in the house. Add a rump-shaking "Freakum Dress" and, three songs in, Beyoncè -- ahem, Sasha Fierce -- was already in full-blown party mode, shaking her golden sequined, bow-clad tush and flailing her hair about wildly."

At one point in the show, Beyoncè descends from the rafters, a la Cirque du Soleil sort of way to belt out "Baby Boy".

A Tweeter complains: "Too many slow songs in a row and the talking to "Sasha" was a little weird.

But when that "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)" beat dropped, everything was OK and everyone was OK, albeit high and sad because the show was over.

On to the next city.
