"It's" Political Campaign Hits Roadblock

Did you know "It" was actually running for NYC City Council?

We were thinking the entire thing was all a fluke, but the star of VH1 shows I Love New York 2 and I Love Money 2 is considering a run for public office. That's if he can get rid of the "haters" and get on the ballot.

Last month "It" - real name Kwame Smalls - participated in a debate on the issues important to residents of the 26th Council District, which covers the Woodside, Sunnyside, Long Island City, and Maspeth areas of New York City.

Here's how the Times Newsweekly, a local newspaper, reported it.
First up to the dais was Smalls, a 25-year resident of the Ravenswood Houses, and a student at nearby LaGuardia Community College, studying speech therapy.

Afflicted with a disease that leaves him legally blind, Smalls has to use Access-A-Ride transportation.

"I'm more passionate on getting the things done that need to be done to make District 26 a better place," he told the crowd. "I fit the shoes of the people who live in District 26 because I am District 26."

He also noted that his stint on a VH1 reality show gives him "a strong image that I have to uphold."

During the question and answer period, Smalls was asked how he would aid the Ravenswood and Queensbridge Houses, and replied that he would work to identify problems common to all housing projects citywide and work with other Council members "to find a common solution."

He was also asked how he would notify residents about the latest news regarding the swine flu; many residents have complained about the frequency and timing of information related to the influenza cases.

Smalls envisioned a town hallstyle meeting that would teach residents about ways to combat the disease.

Finally, in response to a question on his stance on mayoral control of city schools, Smalls said he was "undecided right now."
Putting his disability aside, we do have one question: What exactly is that image "It" has to uphold?

Moving on. Another primary debate, leading up to the Sept. 15 democratic primary, was held on Tuesday. At that time, "It" was not listed as a candidate therefore he wasn't invited to speak.

This video may explain why.
