Ex-Beauty Queens Dies After Getting Butt Implants

A former Miss Argentina died Sunday after complications arising from plastic surgery, the official Telam news agency said.

Solange Magnano, a mother of eight-year-old twins who won the crown in 1994, died of a pulmonary embolism Sunday after three days in critical condition following a gluteoplasty in Buenos Aires.

Close friend Roberto Piazza said she underwent a gluteoplasty – a procedure which normally involves placing implants in the buttocks to improve their outline – which turned fatal when liquid injected "went to her lungs and brain".

"A woman who had everything lost her life to have a slightly firmer behind," he said.

Dr. Gonzalo Cortes y Tristan said she arrived at his hospital with an acute respiratory deficiency. Her condition deteriorated until she suffered the embolism.

In recent years, Argentina has become an international destination for plastic surgery. Last year alone, an estimated 50,000 plastic surgery procedures were performed in Argentina; 1 in 30 Argentines has gone under the knife.
