Too Fat to Fly?

A flight attendant working on an American Airlines flight, who was tired of dealing with overweight passengers who can't fit into one seat, took this photo of a on a recent flight to illustrate her point.

And it's gotten a lot of people taking notice.

Some airlines require overweight passengers to purchase two seats, others do not.

American Airlines say its "primary concern is for the safety and comfort of its passengers and crews and consequently passengers are advised to book two seats if they are concerned that they will require them. If a flight is not full, however, passengers' needs would be accommodated without charge wherever possible."

Another flight attendant who was working that flight said the overweight passenger was cleared to fly after the guy in the middle seat gave up his seat. (He received a nice voucher for future travel and was booked on the next available flight.)
