As Far As We Know, Beyoncè Has Nothing to Do With Etta James' Hospitalization

Legendary R&B singer 72-year-old Etta James has been in the hospital for about a week near for treatment of various ailments, including a bloodstream infection, according to her eldest son Donto James.

He tells ABC News his mom fell ill after entering a detoxification center a month ago for treatment of an addiction to painkillers and over-the-counter medicine and as her condition worsened, she was moved to a nursing facility, and then to Riverside Community Hospital, near her home east of Los Angeles. (In the past, Etta struggled with heroin addiction.)

She is being treated for a number of ailments, including sepsis, a potentially fatal infection spread through the bloodstream, which in her case is believed to have started from a urinary tract infection.

He said that illness may have been a recurrence of an infection that she had around the time she performed "At Last" on the ABC show "Dancing with the Stars" last April.

Donto says his mom, who now has difficulty speaking and suffers from Alzheimer's disease, will be released from the hospital soon and will then transferred to a nursing facility.

Almost a year ago, Etta let Beyoncè and President Obama have it in this now legendary tirade. Donto says her illness may have caused the outburst.

We wish her a speedy recovery.
