Baby Dies After Doctors Fistfight in Operating Room

Last week two flight attendants were fighting in the airplane's galley -- no one was hurt, but when two doctors are throwing blows in an operating room and there's someone lying on the table, chances are something terrible is going to happen.

Case in point: A baby girl died after two doctors at a Brazilian hospital got into a fight after arguing over who should deliver the baby.

Sky News reports:

Witnesses told Brazil's Globo TV that one doctor got angry because the other had been summoned to deliver Gislaine de Matos Rodrigues' (pictured) baby, even though he was not scheduled to be on duty.
Ms Rodrigues, a 32-year-old seamstress, said she was terrified when the fight broke out.
Describing her ordeal, she said the doctors began "exchanging punches inside the room", when she was minutes away from delivery.
"They should have been more ethical, they should have respected me, they should have respected this very special moment for a mother," she said.
She added: "I asked them to stop fighting and help me. One of the nurses came to protect me and console me."
Witnesses said the baby died of asphyxiation following complications.
One of the doctors admitted to Globo TV there was a fight in the delivery room, but blamed his colleague.
"I didn't get in a fight with him," said Dr Sinomar Ricardo. "He got into a fight with me."
"He attacked me. He did not let me perform the birth, he said there was no way I would be allowed to perform the birth."
A third doctor took over the delivery after hospital security guards removed the fighting pair, Ms Rodrigues said. She said her baby girl was dead upon delivery.
Police said they will investigate, and the regional body that oversees doctors in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul also launched a probe.

Both doctors were fired.
