In 2007, 82-year-old Anthony Vincent Digiannurio, was a resident a University Center West nursing home in DeLand, Florida nursing home and was admitted to a hospital with nine maggots in his eye, an infected breathing tube and catheter and severe bed sores. At the time of this incident, the University Center West nursing home had racked up 27 violations in two years; the nursing home said they no idea why this man had maggots in his eye or had infections or bed sores. Anthony, who served courageously in the Army and fought in World War II, died in January 2008.
If you have a loved one in a nursing home, please go visit them and watch those nurses.
