Legendary talk show host Larry King, 76, as filed for divorce from his seventh wife, 50-year-old Shawn Southwick, after 13 years of marriage.
Larry filed the divorce papers this morning in LA County Superior Court. He blames the couple's split on "irreconcilable differences." Moments after he filed his papers, Shawn filed her own divorce documents, which she drew up last year.
The folks over at TMZ are reporting that the marriage ended because Shawn suspected Larry was jumping off with her sister, Shannon Engemann. The Enquirer reported that months ago.
TMZ spoke to Shannon and reported: "Shannon says Shawn has been accusing her of fooling around with Larry for months. She says Shawn has repeatedly pointed to the fact that Larry gave Shannon numerous gifts as evidence. But Shannon says, 'This is so ludicrous. She's singling me out, but Larry has been nothing but generous to our entire family, including me.'...."Shawn has left me threatening messages." After the National Enquirer published a story suggesting an affair, Shannon says, 'Shawn left me a message ... 'If you dare sue the Enquirer I will pull out every last receipt that proves you had an affair with Larry.'.... I love my sister. What's happening is not my fault.'"
She denies any affair with old man Larry, whose estimated net worth is around $144 million.
Shawn is asking for primary custody of the children as well as spousal and child support. She is also asking for real estate, including the couple's Beverly Hills home.
He married Shawn in a hospital room in 1997 three days before surgery to clear a clogged blood vessel. They have two sons, ages 11 and 9.
This, by the way, is Larry's eighth divorce. (He was married --and divorced -- twice to one wife.)
Update: TMZ is now reporting that they are attempting to reconcile.
"Sources intimately familiar with the situation tell TMZ, Shawn and Larry both say they love each other and both would like to figure out how to work things out, but there's one little thing standing in the way....Shawn believes Larry is still schtupping her sister."
