Woman Sends Adopted Son Back to Russia Alone With a Note Saying She No Longer Wants Him

A Tennessee woman put a 7-year-old boy she had adopted from a Russian orphanage on a one-way flight to Moscow with a note saying "I no longer wish to parent this child," when she found she could no longer cope with him.

Torry Ann Hansen, a 34-year-old nurse from Shelbyville, Tenn., adopted Artyom Savelyev (who was given the name Justin) in September 2009 but claims the boy has severe psychological problems.

"This child is mentally unstable. He is violent and has severe psychopathic issues," the mother's note said. "I was lied to and misled by the Russian orphanage workers and director regarding his mental stability. They chose to grossly misrepresent those problems in order to get him out of their orphanage."

Torry added she had "given my best to this child" but was "sorry to say that for the safety of my family, friends and myself, I no longer wish to parent this child. As he is a Russian national, I am returning him to your guardianship and would like the adoption disannulled."

Nancy Hansen, Torry's mother, told the AP the boy had been violent and angry toward Torry. She said that she put him on a plane yesterday with a note from her daughter along with crayons, candy and biscuits and paid a Russian man she found on the Internet, called Artur, $200 to pick the boy up at the airport and take him to the Russian education ministry. She also claims the child was not abandoned because a flight attendant was taking care of him on the plane.

The boy is back in a Russian orphanage.

Update: The grandmother continues to do the talking for the family. She described the boy as a terror, especially when he was denied something he wanted, like toys or video games. She said he would hit, scream and spit at his mother and threatened to kill family members. "He drew a picture of our house burning down and he'll tell anybody that he's going to burn our house down with us in it," Nancy said. "It got to be where you feared for your safety. It was terrible." She said Torry spoke with several psychologists about the problems she was having with Artyom but never had him meet with one.

Suffice it to say, the Russian government is L.I.V.I.D. They have suspended all US adoptions. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev told ABC News that the boy "fell into a very bad family....It is a monstrous deed on the part of his adoptive parents, to take the kid and virtually throw him out with the airplane in the opposite direction and to say, 'I'm sorry I could not cope with it, take everything back' is not only immoral but also against the law."

BTW: Here's the note:

what a bitch he was a young boy who was in not just a new home but a new country with strangers and places he didn't know. of course he was a little unstable he may not have even wanted to come here. but he is still a person with feelings and if she had given him her best she would have tried to help him not send him back. and that note bs he's 7 i have a 5 yr old and i mean seriously you're bigger than him put things out of his reach and get a grip lady. you're bigger than him stronger and yet you're scared of him you wanted to be a mother and yet you left him and put him on a plane to go to another country with a guy off the internet you should never be a parent. that is not what parents do. you are supposed to care for your child not give up on him!
