Woman Tries to Sell Her Baby to Get Her 'Crazy Baby Father' Off Her Back

Police in Raleigh, NC have arrested 22-year-old Sharri Chellerina Butler -- a single mother of three -- and charged her with with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile after she tried to sell her 2-month-old baby.
Police records made public Monday indicated that Lisa Renee Hinton, 43, of Garner called police on June 9, one day after someone called her home between 6 and 7 p.m. and left a voice mail message offering a baby for purchase. Hinton was unavailable for comment Monday. Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said detectives eventually traced the call back to Butler. Brought before a Wake magistrate after her arrest Monday, Butler said she and the child's father were not together but described him as "a crazy baby father" who did not want the child and urged her to put it up for adoption. Butler said that "in order to get him off her back" she randomly dialed a telephone number and left a message, indicating the child was for sale. Sughrue said the call was not random but would not elaborate on how Hinton and Butler may be acquainted, saying he was not at liberty to go into the details of the case. "If it had been a random call, I do not think it would have come to light," he said. Butler, while talking with the magistrate, did not say what amount of money she was willing to accept for her child.
Sharri -- who has a long rap sheet that includes convictions for misdemeanor larceny, probation violation, misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury and breaking and entering -- has since lost custody of her two older kids. We hope she wasn't selling the kid for
