Erasmos Santos, 41, of Santa Fe, NM has been charged with attempted murder after he attacked his daughter’s boyfriend with a machete.

The court document states Santos' wife informed him Monday that their daughter was dating a man the family knows. "(The boyfriend) received a phone call from Erasmo asking him ... to come over to Erasmo's residence at 2909 Calle Princessa Juana," the court document states. When the boyfriend entered the Santos home, according to police, "Erasmo runs inside of the house and retrieves a machete. (The daughter) then grabbed the machete from Erasmo. Erasmo then pulled (the daughter) to the ground, put his foot on her chest and took the machete from her." During the struggle with his daughter, police say, Santos cut her left hand. "Erasmo then chased (the boyfriend) outside to the side of the house where Erasmo slashed (the boyfriend) with the machete in the left arm and left shoulder," according to the probable cause statement. Family members then intervened and tried to stop Santos, who witnesses say then announced he wasn't going to stop until he killed the boyfriend. Santos reportedly told police that when he called the boyfriend and asked him to come over to talk about his relationship with Santos' daughter, the boyfriend "was being very disrespectful ... which made Erasmo infuriated." When a police officer asked Santos why he asked the boyfriend to come over if he was so upset, "Erasmo then stated that he doesn't know and that he had blacked out due to being angry."

The name or age of the daughter has not been released, but the boyfriend is in his late 30s.
