Man Beats Down Woman During Road Rage Incident

David B. Pettengill of Framingham, Mass. is a special kind of asshole. The 42-year-old was arrested Monday after he punched a woman and slammed her head against her car during a road rage incident.

A Framingham woman said she was driving on Rte. 30 in Wayland when she noticed a pickup truck tailgating her. She said the truck tried to pass her car but could not because of oncoming traffic. At one point, the woman changed lanes to let the truck pass, but it got behind her again, Pereira said. The truck pulled in front of her and stopped in front of 550 Cochituate Road, he said. "She began to get out of her car when (Pettengill) came running toward her and yelling. He slammed the car door against the victim," [police Lt. Victor Pereira] said. "He then grabbed her and pulled her from the car and began slamming her head against the car." Pereira said Pettengill threw the woman to the ground. As she tried to crawl back into her car, he slammed the door into her again, he said. "When she told him she was going to call the police, he ran back to his truck and drove off," Pereira said.

A short while after the beat down, David called 911 to say he was the victim. Two witnesses wrote down his license plate number and called police, too. He was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery and driving to endanger. Surprisingly, he pleaded not guilty and was released without bail. The woman was not injured.
