[She] told police she watched some YouTube videos about circumcisions. Then around midnight on the morning of Oct. 24 - using a box cutter as a scalpel and a pair of pliers as a tourniquet - she began the procedure. She had no experience. When the bleeding wouldn’t stop, she tried to stitch her baby up. Her 13-year-old son watched on in distress. After two hours of uncontrolled bleeding, Peterson decided she needed help and called 9-1-1 to her home near East Burnside Street and 127th Avenue. Medics rushed the infant to OHSU, where he was initially listed in critical condition. Deputy district attorney John Casalino offered these details in a memorandum opposing Peterson’s attempt to get out of Multnomah County jail this week. Peterson had been locked up since her arrest March 8.She was charged with first- and second-degree assault and first-degree criminal mistreatment, but was released on Wednesday after undergoing mental-health counseling and posting $500 bail. She has been allowed to see her four children, who are staying with family members, during supervised visits. BTW: The boy has recovered and is doing fine. If he wants his foreskin back, there's a procedure for that.

Mother Tries to Circumcise Baby at Home With a Box Cutter After Watching Videos on YouTube, Reading the Bible
Last October, Keemonta Peterson's 3-month-old son was rushed to a Portland, Oregon hospital in critical condition after she tried to circumcise him at home. Now, the unemployed 29-year-old mother of four says she was inspired to circumcise her baby after reading the Old Testament and because she knew a hospital wouldn't circumcise the boy at his age [he's too old apparently], Keemonta decided to take matters into her own hands.
