Chicago police have officially arrested suspect William Balfour in the murders of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew in October. Balfour, who was married to Hudson’s sister, was taken into custody shortly after the murders on a parole violation. On Monday, an official arrest warrant was issued for Balfour in the murder case and he was transferred to Chicago police custody.
“We have obtained an arrest warrant for William Balfour,” Chicago Police Department spokeswoman Monique Bond announced to the press on Monday. “He was released to Chicago detectives.”
The mother of singer and film star Jennifer Hudson, Darnell Donerson, was found shot to death on October 24 in her Chicago South Side home. Also found dead at the scene was Hudson’s 29-year-old brother, Jason. Hudson’s nephew, 7-year-old Julian King, was found several days later in a stolen SUV.
Balfour, 27, was married to Hudson’s sister Julia and was arrested shortly after the murders were discovered on a parole violation for a previous attempted murder conviction. Police investigators reportedly have evidence that Balfour owned a gun matching the murder weapon used to kill Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew.
Balfour was being held at the Stateville Correctional Center and was released on Monday into Chicago police custody to await formal charges from the Cook County State Attorney’s Office in the murders of
