Politicians' Egos are So Big, Take Roland Burris' For Example

Something is definitely fishy about the appointment of Roland Burris to fill president-elect Barack Obama's Illinois Senate seat.

We can't wrap our heads around it, but something is going on here.

This blog isn't a political blog, however, this question has been irking us.

We're not even gonna start with governor Rod Blagojevich who, despite advice not to appoint anyone to the seat, pending the outcome of his own legal problems, went on and did so anyway. Plus, to really stick it to people, he appointed an African-American.

The Senate has repeatedly said it will block anyone Blagojevich appoints, but Roland is going around telling people he's the junior senator from Illinois. The senate has already refused his certificate of appointment because it wasn't signed by the Illinois Lt Governor, who says he won't sign it.

Why does Burris really want to go somewhere where he's not wanted? And why did he accept the appointment in the first instance? And if he does make it to the Senate, what sort of impact would he have when no one really wanted him there?

Is he such a career-politician and so desperate to get into office, after several failed bids (lost 1984 senate race; lost 1995 gubernatorial race; lost 1995 mayoral race; lost 1998 and 2002 gubernatorial races) that he now sees this has his shot?

Did you know Burris built a family tomb in Oak Woods Cemetery on Chicago's South Side. His tombstone proclaims, "Trail Blazer," and includes a list of his accomplishments, with space left for future ones.

Alright then.

Case Closed.

Something is certainly up with this dude. His ego is so big, we can't take it.
