iPhone Now Cut and Paste Compatible

For those of you with an iPhone, you probably were as bummed as we are that we couldn't cut and paste. Well, not anymore. Apple has buckled and will support the feature (among others) when it releases the iPhone 3.0 firmware free upgrade this summer. The new features are available now in beta. ( * does the happy dance * )

Gizmodo shows us how the cut and paste works:

Here's how it works: you double tap on a word to present a cut, copy, paste popup. Two draggable icons appear for customizing the selection. Double tap in an empty space to bring up the cut, copy and paste bubble and paste it in. Double tap again to select again, select entire block of text and paste again. Easy as pie.

You hold your finger down on an entire paragraph to select it. If it's got rich formatting, such as links or bold text, it'll copy it all for you. You can copy and paste across all apps, including web content. To undo, simply shake the phone.

Now, one and all, commence the and cut-and-paste-ation: Begin with this blog. Share it with your friends.

Also included in iPhone 3.0 firmware: Spotlight, to search mail, appointments, application names, contacts, and iTunes content; The ability to forward and delete SMS messages (photographs, contact information, audio, and location data can be sent while you're texting someone); Full landscape keyboard support across all key applications; Push notification support, like on BlackBerry devices; Stereo Bluetooth support and the ability to connect with and share contact information with someone else via Bluetooth; Shake-to-shuffle music playing support; Voice notes application, so audio texts and note can be sent; Option to mail multiple photos straight from a photo album; YouTube account support.

Still, however, no video capture capabilities. Keep sending those letters to Apple.
