Here's One Reason to Be Glad You Don't Live in India
Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar was arrested Monday by police investigating allegations of obscenity following his appearance at a recent fashion show.
The actor walked in a Levi's fashion show in Mumbai, India in March. (The show was to promote the denim company's Unbuttoned line of jeans.)
But Kumar, 41, sparked outrage in the conservative country by stopping midway on the catwalk and asked his wife, Twinkle Khanna, pictured, who was sitting in the front row, to undo his jeans.
Police launched an investigation into the matter after an official complaint was lodged with the city's authorities.
He turned himself into police on Monday and was charged with suspicion of obscene behavior.
Assistant commissioner of Mumbai police, Arvind Mahdadi, says, "I can confirm that Akshay Kumar came to Vakola police station (in Mumbai) at 8.30am with his lawyer and surrendered himself. He was arrested under section 294 of Indian Penal Code and was given bail."
Kumar apologized, telling fans, "If I have hurt anyone's sentiments with my actions, I'm sorry because I didn't mean to."
