Letterman: Sex, Lies and Blackmail!

David Letterman took a few moments from the taping of his show last night to address the problem that required him to testify in front a grand jury. A man was attempting to extort $2 million from the talk show host or he'll go public with proof (diary entries, letters, e-mails and photos) that Dave, 62, was having sexual relations (sorry, we just threw up) with several women who worked for him.

The man, Robert J. Halderman, is a CBS News' 48 Hours producer and will be arraigned today.

Dave married longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko in March. The couple began dating in 1986 and have a son, Harry, born in November 2003.

Now, really, would several women be throwing themselves at Letterman's feet if he wasn't Letterman?

BTW: Remember when Wendy's family tried to extort money from her? She got real Brownsville on their ass.



Update: According to Gawker, Letterman had as many as five female assistants who had two things in common: they were young and beautiful. Letterman's former first assistant and alleged jumpoff Stephanie Birkitt is believed to be the center of the extortion plot. She was dating and living with Robert. Furthermore, Dave paid for her graduate school education at the Yeshiva University Law School. And this is how she repays him? How rude.

Update 2: Robert pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on an attempted grand larceny charges this afternoon in a Manhattan court. Bail has been set at $200,000.
