Lil Wayne Pleads Guilty, Expects One Year in Prison
Lil Wayne is going to prison. The rapper pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted weapon possession this morning in a NYC court and expects to receive a one-year prison sentence. He will be sentenced in February.
The charges stem from a July 22, 2007 incident in NYC. Police said they had seen and smelled marijuana smoke wafting out the door before the bus left a concert venue minutes earlier. As a police officer approached the bus, the rapper tossed away a Louis Vuitton bag containing a gun. The defense disputed officers' basis for searching the bus and noted that more than a dozen other people were aboard.
Suffice it to say, Wayne then pleaded not guilty to illegal gun possession charges that carried at least 3 1/2 years in jail upon conviction.
But, this morning, Lil Wayne acknowledged he had a .40 caliber semi-automatic loaded gun on bus.
When the judge warned that he would not be able to withdraw the plea as some people try to do, the rapper said, "I'm not one of those people."
What do you think was his drug of choice this morning? Or was he sober?
He's also facing felony charges in Arizona. On January 23, 2008, Border Patrol agents near Yuma, stopped his tour bus. Onboard they found 105 grams of marijuana (3.7 ounces), almost 29 grams of cocaine (1.02 ounces), 41 grams of MDMA (1.4 ounces) and $22,000 in cash. He was charged with possession of narcotic drug for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, misconduct involving weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia.
