After years of delays, Boeing's new 787 aircraft - the Dreamliner - finally took to the skies for the first time this morning. But this aircraft is not like what we're used to flying on. It's made of plastic. About 50 percent of the plane is made of lightweight composite materials, it will be quieter, produce fewer emissions and use 20 percent less fuel than comparable aircraft, while passengers will enjoy a more comfortable cabin with better air quality and larger windows. Before we can fly it on, however, Boeing has to complete nine months of testing. Barring delays, the plane will be in operation by late 2011.
