9-year-old Girl Gives Birth to Baby Boy

A 9-year-old Chinese girl has reportedly given birth to a healthy six-pound baby boy via Caesarean section, according to reports.

The unidentified girl's family has refused to discuss the child's pregnancy publicly, but they have reported it to police.

Officers are investigating, and may press charges if they discover who the father is - Jilin province laws demand a rape conviction for anyone who has sex with a child under age 14.

While you may think a 9-year-old is quite young to be having babies (and it is), she is not the youngest mother on record. That distinction goes to 5-year-old Lina Medina, of Peru who gave birth to a 6-pound baby boy named Gerardo in 1939. Coincidentally, two other Peruvian girls under the age of 10 have given birth since then: a 9-year-old in 1957 and an 8-year-old in 2006.
