Woman With Skin Lesions Thrown Off Plane

Patricia Roa, a 59-year-old Spanish woman was thrown off Ryanair, a budget airline that services Europe (and Morocco), after a flight attendant noticed what appeared to be open sores on her arm and feared her "skin condition" may be contagious. (We didn't want to frighten you, so we put the photo after the jump.)

According to the Telegraph, Patricia has suffered for ten years from prurigo nodularis - an itchy skin condition that is non-contagious and difficult to treat. It affects people with a slew of medical conditions including autoimmune conditions, liver disease, thyroid disease and HIV.

A doctor who happened to be on board confirmed the diagnosis and Patricia telephoned her dermatologist who offered to fax the airline a medical certificate giving permission to fly, but the flight crew wasn't have any of it. They informed the gate and five guards escorted Patricia off the plane.

We wonder how the passenger sitting beside her felt?
