Almost 30,000 people have been lining up in East Point, Ga. since Monday hoping to get on the waiting list for public housing. But here's the rub: These 30,000 people are vying for 455 available apartments which have all been occupied for more than six years now! So these 30,000 people will have to wait years to get the section 8 vouchers and wait even longer for one of those 455 apartments to become available. And who knows when any of those apartments will become available -- if ever. The scene was absolute mayhem; like something you'd see in a third world nation. Call us crazy, but is there not an easier way to get these people applications? Like, ahem, via the Internet or through the mail or have people pick-up applications from the local welfare offices? Just sayin'.
