New York City Councilwoman Margaret Chin has introduced a new bill that would make it a crime for to purchase a designer knockoff handbag in Chinatown, the district she represents. Those caught purchasing counterfeit Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Versace, etc., purses could be fined $1,000 or jailed for one year. Councilwoman Chin says she's fed up with tourists heading to her district in search of the cheap imitations. She says the counterfeiters flaunt child labor laws and the funds may support other nefarious activities. We wonder how the her constituents feel about this proposed law -- some of whom probably peddle these fake goods.
