WATCH: Dozens Trapped in NYC Subway Station Elevator

Last Friday, an elevator which transports people from the street to the train platform at the 181st Street subway station in the Washington Heights neighborhood of NYC, became stuck more than 100 feet underground with 28 people (and the assistant who was operating it) inside. The fire department rescued the trapped people about an hour later from the packed elevator. Sidebar: The stairs at this station have been inoperable since February, so the elevator is the only way to and from the train platform.
